SELECT-CUT BALSA

Some years ago I noted good quality quarter (C) and near quarter grain (B) balsa being cut up for craft packs by a major supplier that just happen to be perfect for the aero modelling community, free flighters in particular, Select Cut Balsa® was born. All timber is cut from block to my specifications, each sheet is thicknessed and weighed and its average density defined from a master list before receiving a coloured stamp.

  I offer 4 density ranges:-

Super Light (4 - 5.4lb), Light (5.5 - 6.5lb)

 Light medium(6.6 - 7.5lb) and Medium (7.8 - 8.5lb).

Densities greater than 8.5lb are not stocked but can be ordered.

PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY AS IMPORTANT NOTES ARE HIGHLIGHTED.

THAT WAY YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IF WHAT YOU ASK FOR, IS NOT AVAILABLE.

Regrettably, we cannot supply timber to overseas customers.

Super light quarter grain balsa in any quantity is a rare commodity and will only be sold when stock available.  (Contact me first with your requirements and I will advise what you can have)

For mail orders, the minimum balsa order is $50 plus postage

To make my task a little easier, please prepare your order in the following manner:-

  1. Quantity and sheet size i.e. 5 @ 1.5 x 75mm x 915mm,

  2. add the Sheet Density required i.e. 5 @ 1.5 x 75mm x 915mm, 6.6 - 7.5lb,

  3. then lastly, the Grain type i.e. 5 @ 1.5 x 75mm x 915mm, 6.6 - 7.5lb, Straight grain.

Please do not frame or box your order (no Excel formats) and try to list the items in order of thickness

If you still grade balsa in the old fashioned light, medium and hard method , please convert your requirements to pounds/cubic foot density (refer to the Density chart provided) that is how my balsa is graded.

Balsa block 5 - 6.0lb density

Mainly for the control line fliers, I have managed to put aside a small stock pile of 75mm wide balsa block for use in "yea old time" aerobatic models (where the fuselage was a wood carver's delight). At present I have 2 thicknesses available 40mm and 50mm which allows you to cut them down to smaller thickness i.e. 19mm and 24mm. I have looked at wider stock (100mm) and quite frankly "Tassie Oak" is lighter!

40mm x 75mm x 915 = $14.00

50mm x 75mm x 915 = $16.00
